This is Hovet<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Hovet was Stockholm\u2019s first ice hockey arena and is considered one of Sweden\u2019s most ancient arenas. It was inaugurated as early as 1955, then as an open arena with the name Johanneshovs Isstadion. 8 years later, the specially designed roof was added and in 1989 the arena was officially named Hovet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today, Hovet is home ground to AIK Hockey<\/a> and Djurg\u00e5rden Hockey<\/a> and a popular multi-arena that, in addition to hockey, also is widely used for concerts and corporate events. Over the years, greats like Queen, Prince, Rihanna, Pink and Stevie Wonder visited the arena.<\/p>\n\n<\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n\n

Before the arena was to be inaugurated, the newspaper Dagens Nyheter announced a competition in search of a name for the arena. Among many suggestions were \u201cThe refrigerator\u201d and \u201cFinally\u201d (by someone who had waited a long time for a hockey arena).<\/p>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n

The arena was eventually named Johanneshovs isstadion and in 1989 it was officially renamed Hovet (the nickname for Johanneshovs<\/strong>\u00a0isstadion).<\/p>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n

\n The first hockey game <\/h3>\n
\n

\u2026was played at the inauguration \u2013 a game between Sweden and Norway that Sweden won with 7-2. The World Cup tournament at the same venue 8 years later became a great sporting and economic success which also contributed to ignite a great interest in Hockey in Sweden.<\/p>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n

Hovet has been the venue for sporting events other than hockey. Looking closely at the picture and you will find the boxing ring where Ingemar \u201cIngo\u201d Johansson himself defended his title by a knockout in the fifth round against Henry Cooper.

\u201cTwist and shout\u201d, \u201cI want to hold your hand\u201d, \u201cCan\u00b4t buy me love\u201d, \u201cA hard day\u00b4s night\u201d. Lauryn Hill, 2019<\/h2>

The late 90\u2019s most influential album \u201cThe miseducation of Lauryn Hill\u201d celebrated 20 years and one of the biggest R&B\/hip hop stars of our time chose to celebrate at Hovet. ABBA, 1979<\/h2>
\n

One of the world\u2019s most successful and beloved pop groups of all time got the whole Hovet dancing. It was ABBA\u2019s last arena gig in Sweden and \u201c\u2026 ovations and applause after almost every song.\u201d, as one newspaper reported.
